Early Learning

The philosophy behind our curriculum is that young children learn best through play. Learning requires active thinking experimenting to discover how things work and to learn first hand about the world we live in. Children explore the world around them by using all their senses. By using real materials such as blocks, children learn about size, shape, colour and notice relationships between things. This is the beginning of symbolic thinking.

We believe play provides the foundation for academic or “school” learning. Play enables us to achieve the key goals of an early childhood curriculum. The most important goal is to help children become enthusiastic learners. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts.

Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners who learn at their own pace and in ways that are best for them. We aim to develop good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves. We encourage friendships between children and show awareness of the need to avoid bias. Children are encouraged to share all emotions and demonstrate empathy for other’s feelings. It is our goal to help children verbalise feelings and deal constructively with negative feelings.

The centre warmly welcomes all new children to our community regardless of cultural backgrounds or developmental needs. The staff will provide the appropriate care to help cater for any individuals who may require additional needs. We believe it is important for children to learn about different cultures and members of the community within their society and place importance on local community events.

The activities we plan for children, the way we organise the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule and talk with children are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum.

A glimpse of how we achieve this….

Children’s needs and educational goals are met through a range of planned and spontaneous indoor and outdoor activities and are supplemented with visiting shows and the sharing of skills and talents from members of the child care community. Computers are incorporated in older age groups and Literacy learning is stimulated through use of various literacy programs.
